Drill Pipe
 Shank adaptors – Kat

The classic tophammer method is renowned for high penetration rates in good drilling conditions and Atlas Copco is developing the method continuously. Exhaustive research into how impact energy can be transmitted into the drill bit in the most efficient way, with least possible stress, has resulted in a new generation of rock drills.

“It’s a little bit by accident that we are based in Switzerland,” Wurzbacher told me. He and Gebald both grew up in Germany and met as undergraduates at E.T.H. Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. “We met on Day 1, on the 20th of October of 2003,” Gebald recalled. “And on Day 1 we decided that we’d have a company.” Their aspiration was to be entrepreneurs, not to start a carbon-capture firm, but both men were drawn to research on renewable energy and reducing emissions. After they completed their master’s projects, they decided to create a direct-air-capture prototype and go into business. Both took the title of company director. Helped by a number of small grants, Climeworks was incorporated in 2009.

- Underground tonnes mined increased due to the end of the rainy season, allowing for improved stope access and productivity.

Atlas Copco, a leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions, has won a significant order from Chilean mining company Sociedad Punta del Cobre SA

Rescuers had found that the borehole – 100m deep and just 25cm wide – was blocked with earth, raising fears that soil had collapsed onto the child.

The tunnel will accommodate a tube 2.6 metres wide, the deepest potable-water pipe in the world, that will pump (mostly desalinated) water through 30km of tunnel from sea-level to an elevation of 860 metres to supply much of Jerusalem’s drinking-water needs. In a country famous for its ambitious water-supply schemes, this is the biggest since the 1960s. It was in 1964 that Israel inaugurated its National Water Carrier, a public-works project to bring water from the north of the country down to the Negev desert in the south. It was an emblem of the young country’s determination to survive. And it is a dominant theme in water policy to this day. In a dramatic symbol of a determination to shape the natural order to human needs, the direction of water-flow in the national carrier is to be reversed, to give clean, desalinated water back to “nature” in the north of the country.

Right off the bat the scanner detects rocks. Lots of them. Then something intriguing that could be man-made is found in the same area where Sullivan theorized that tunnels would be discovered. Could it be one of the offshore holes that Dan Blankenship found in 1980?
