Then the good news comes: the dig can continue with the 3-ton hammer grab tool, but they must proceed with caution. It could be worse.
The total sale price consideration is up to approximately US$70 million, comprised of an upfront cash consideration of US$35 million (which was received on December 24, 2018), a deferred cash consideration of US$10 million expected in 2019, subject to certain conditions, and a 10% net smelter royalty on the Dar Salaam deposit, capped at a maximum of 200,000 ounces of gold.
“Mobility, flexibility, reliability, efficiency and precision drilling capacity define Epiroc’s ROC family of drilling machines making them the most suitable and up for the task,” states Pieter Malan, General Manager of Booysen Bore Drilling Company, Sishen.
That new design is about to be put to the test. The BAS team completed its ice coring on January 10 and will next examine the iceâs chemical composition, including gases trapped within the ice, to learn more about the regionâs climatic history. Meanwhile, the Glasgow team is preparing to send its drill down into one of the ice boreholes.
Similar doubts surround India’s scheme to “interlink” 37 rivers through a network of 15,000km of canals, the ultimate aim being, as in China, to move water from well-endowed regions—such as some of the Himalayan foothills in the north—to areas of scarcity. The plan has been discussed for decades. The current government has tried to give it fresh impetus. But even if it forges a political consensus in Delhi behind the plan, it would be hard to realise because of tensions between different states over water.
In the center’s oral history recording, Humason says Hughes “bought my idea and paid me $150 for the idea, and I stood in the bar with the oil boys, and I spent about $50 in the bar.”
The 2016 Kalana Main Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) as prepared by Avnel (the previous owner) was updated following a rebuild of the geological model using a more conservative approach to incorporate tighter geological controls for the high-grade nugget effect, stacked vein sets and dilution.
Both founders told me they expect to reap enormous cost reductions from expanding production — activities that involve buying materials more cheaply in bulk and assembling units on automated factory lines instead of building them by hand, as is the case now. Design advances could wring out other costs. “Maintenance is very expensive,” Wurzbacher said. “Right now, if we exchange the filters in the collectors, we have to rent a crane, and that’s a lot of man-hours. In the next-generation units, we have improved that a lot, so relatively small design changes could cut the costs of maintenance by a factor of three.” Climeworks also intends to derive savings from improvements to crucial materials, like the sorbent that catches the CO₂. At the moment, the company’s technology requires that the temperature inside the units be raised periodically to about 100 degrees Celsius to release CO₂ from the sorbent so it can be drawn off and stored. If the process can be done at a lower temperature, the units will use less energy, and the life of the materials should be extended, further driving down costs.
- Tonnes of ore mined increased as mining activities ramped up following the end of the rainy season. Activities focused exclusively on mining oxide ore from the Kao pit.
It is not the first Time that members of the family of the Brazilian President in connection with suspicious money notice rivers. In the past year, the financial investigators had found “unusual transactions” to the account of the former chauffeur and the Bodyguards of Flávio Bolsonaro, Fabrício José de Queiroz. Queiroz is said to have converted in the years 2016 and 2017, around 270,000 Euro to the son, and the wife of the current President paid.
It may now be that another gas — carbon dioxide (CO₂) — can be removed from the air for commercial purposes, and that its removal could have a profound effect on the future of humanity. But it’s almost certainly too soon to say for sure. One sunny morning last October, several engineers from a Swiss firm called Climeworks ambled onto the roof of a power-generating waste-incineration plant in Hinwil, a village about 30 minutes outside Zurich. The technicians had in front of them 12 large devices, stacked in two rows of six, that resembled oversize front-loading clothes dryers. These were “direct air capture” machines, which soon would begin collecting carbon dioxide from air drawn in through their central ducts. Once trapped, the CO₂ would then be siphoned into large tanks and trucked to a local Coca-Cola bottler, where it would become the fizz in a soft drink.
