Borehole or down-hole methods are of two distinct varieties: borehole seismic and wireline logging. The former is achieved when seismic receivers are used to acquire information in the borehole, presented as a vertical seismic profile (VSP). VSP in most cases, is integrated with surface seismic information. A successful example of this method is the use for mine planning, and harnessing deposits of uranium in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. Conversely, the latter is when a logging tool called ‘sonde’ is used in the vicinity of the borehole. The information obtained are presented as Logs; a plot of the measured physical property versus depth. In a basic sense, well logs help to identify and quantify minerals.
Where required, a well screen and casing will be installed and the annular space between the borehole wall filled with a sand or gravel pack. Specialist, artificial or engineered media are also available for use. The gravel pack is commonly referred to as a ‘formation stabiliser’ when the primary purpose is to provide stability when the target formation is unstable. If the primary purpose is to prevent sand and other fine material entering the borehole and damaging the pump, it is referred to as a ‘filter pack’.
Last April, nine people were killed outside a middle school in north-western China, allegedly by a former student seeking revenge for bullying.
AISC increased, despite lower mining and processing costs, mainly due to higher costs associated with processed stockpiles and higher G&A costs.

The key to installing a reliable and efficient borehole is understanding the hydrogeology of the site, and assessing the aquifer potential and aquifer properties. The geology of the UK is highly variable, but we are fortunate to benefit from some excellent aquifers on both a local and regional scale. The major Chalk, Limestone and Sandstone aquifers found in the South and Midlands in particular provide substantial yields, potentially in the region of 1,000m3/day or more. Good yields can be obtained from other formations too, and at a local scale there might be several options for developing an independent water supply.
Several new technologies are included in the set, including the elimination of the air gap between the glass front and the plasma panel. With the Panasonic ZT60, the glass front is now directly attached to the plasma panel. We’ve seen this process on LCD screens before, but not with plasma. Panasonic is promising that this new process will produce brighter images.
This week they’re told by Vanessa Lucido, CEO of ROC Equipment, that the whole H8 area needs to be monitored due to the compromised ground. Because she cannot be sure of what exactly is taking place underground, she suggests that the treasure hunting team use a vibro hammer, a massive hydraulic tool, on H8 in order to jiggle the huge metal can. Ironically the jarring motion will cause more earth to cave in, but could at the same time cause the surrounding ground to stabilize.
In early January, researchers from the University of Glasgow in Scotland took a modified version of their Martian drill to Antarctica. Theyâre poised to send it down to the bottom of a 651-meter deep ice borehole completed January 10 by researchers with the British Antarctic Survey, or BAS. The goal is to bring back pieces of Antarctic bedrock that could help determine how long ice has covered Skytrain Ice Rise, a site near the Antarctic Peninsula, and provide clues to its past climate.
Receivables were a 2018 outflow of $5 million. The 2018 outflow primarily related to an increase in VAT receivables at the Burkina Faso mine sites (Karma and Hounde) of $5 million and the recognition of $9 million for the current portion of the Tabakoto sale receivable. This was offset partly by a reduction in other receivable balances during the year across the Corporation. Inventories were a 2018 outflow of $17 million relating primarily to a build up of stockpiles at Hounde which totalled $29 million at year end. This was offset by a decrease at Ity where mining operations is winding down, as well as Karma where inventory levels are being reduced to optimised levels. Prepayments are a 2018 $5 million inflow due to a prepayment for strategic spares at Hounde that was in place at year end 2017. These were received in 2018 and are accounted for as part of consumable inventory.Trade and other payables are a $7 million inflow 2018. At year end there was a $12 million outflow at Karma due to a change in supplier terms from last year and $13 million outflow in payables at Agbaou which was the result of the site having a logistical issue in paying a key supplier in the prior period. This was offset against an inflow in trade payables of $22 million across Ity and Hounde.
- Processing unit costs decreased from $8.46 to $7.41 per tonne due to higher stacked tonnes and lower reagent consumption for oxide material processed.
