Bump that competition into the “trophy truck” category (where your machine is expected to tromp effortlessly at 100mph over the roughest terrain Mother Nature can throw at it), you’re going to need a professional and $50,000.
As far out as monster trucks look – with their full tube chassis and four-wheel steering – it’s not hard to take a wild guess at the evolutionary steps that brought it to the machine we know it as today. Essentially starting out as a guy wanting to see if he could run over a set of blown out car bodies in a field, the sport feverishly took off with a warm and enthusiastic public reception similar to NASCAR. There was just something transfixing about watching a motor and chassis push around 3,600lbs of rubber. A typical snapshot of the mechanical madness responsible for the “thunder within” takes the form of a 540cid, supercharged race motor; centrally located to balance out the truck and lower the center of gravity. Many of these monsters blow all of that torque through a two-speed Powerglide transmission (heavily-modified, of course).
After his dream about the drill, and a series of fortuitous connections, BYU students Devin LeBaron, Eric Jammohamed, Jimmy Stacey, Ken Langely, Nathan Toone and Sabin Gautam worked on the design for eight months as a BYU Capstone project.
Apart from blasthole drilling, the DTH method is widely used for water well drilling, shallow gas and oil wells, and for geothermal wells. It is also developed for sampling using the reverse circulation technique (RC drilling).
The LST1G+HDA can be shipped fully assembled in a 20-foot container by standard truck or overseas. The drill comes with assembly tools for fast and easy setup.
“This rainy season has had varying patterns where the northern part is experiencing abnormal rainfall while here (Southern province), a drought has affected the crop, so we will be doing more of relief food distribution and also find other ways of managing problems caused by the varying weather patterns.”
In an expanding market, synthetic fuels could have curious effects. Since they’re made from airborne CO₂ and hydrogen and could be manufactured just about anywhere, they could rearrange the geopolitical order — tempering the power of a handful of countries that now control natural-gas and oil markets. The methane project in Rapperswil-Jona is especially suited for that country’s needs, Markus Friedl, a thermodynamics professor overseeing the project, told me, because Switzerland imports almost all of its natural gas, and its ability to generate energy from renewable sources is limited during the colder months. Carbon-capture-derived fuels, if they become cheap enough, could be a form of energy storage — made in summer, with solar or wind power, and used in winter — that carries a lower cost (and longer life) than batteries.
Microbes rule the world, both above and below ground. This image depicts a performance piece of art wherein an artist, having shook hands with plenty of people, has mapped out the diverse microbial communities he has come into contact with as a result.François-Joseph Lapointe, Université de Montréal/Wellcome Collection
All-in sustaining costs decreased, mainly due to increased gold sales, which were offset slightly by higher sustaining costs driven by increased waste capitalization activity.
It’s a Frankenstein like you’ve never seen before, and even when guys try – the results are usually dismal. In this case, however, progress appears to be well underway as two 1JZ Supra motors are married together (and acting more like cylinder heads with cylinder heads) and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be much room for disappointment when this one’s finished. The sheer technical prism of challenges is obviously amplified in complexity by the multiplication of moving components. But even if this build did nothing, it’s still awesome to see somebody take a go at it. This is the “spirit of hot rodding” at its finest.
There are fewer barriers to MC in infancy. The infant is less mobile, so facilitating the use of local anesthesia, the procedure is simpler, healing is quicker, the cosmetic outcome is superior, and cost-effectiveness is high, as is acceptability. The neonatal period should therefore be regarded as the optimal time to perform circumcision. It is viewed as a vital component of public health strategies aimed at realizing high levels of MC in the population [187]. The procedure should be performed by a trained professional using appropriate local anesthesia in a clean environment. Circumcision outside of such a setting is ill-advised, so explaining why clinical MC is increasingly being made available in European countries to Muslim families.
